In Athens, the economic crisis in the construction sector is calling for a rethinking of the large amount of fallow existing housing stock. Units of old buildings receive new sort of evaluation by their owners, planners and construction companies and become the basis for a new beginning with functional, architectural and energetic features.

CAA shows this conversion of an old 95 sqm flat, on the elevated ground floor level of an apartment building of 1952, into a new, modern city apartment and high-quality, architectural approach with planning flair, functional sophistication and the latest standards.

The original apartment dark, labyrinthine, with doors and corridors, separated use rooms, leaving a dark hallway, changed into a bright surrounding, contiguous city apartment; a new living space with sensible separation into private and visible areas, unexpected views and light-planned room sequences.

The central core, the idea, forms a freestanding, multifunctional cube with concentricity of the entire apartment reorganized as a room divider and develops functionally the rooms in all directions. To the entrance area this newly inserted piece of furniture serves as a wardrobe, to the living area as media cabinet wall, inside as storage and storage room.
Between the two bedrooms, instead of the old, musty storeroom, which due to
elevated level was hardly used, was created a new walk-in closet for both rooms, with access via mobile cupboard.

The reorganization of the floor plan, which also includes an additional toilet, the confluence of open kitchen with the new spacious living room and the parquet floor in the
entire apartment, give a completely new generous sense of space, around the cube,
on elevated city level.
